Nuns break silence after monastery smells steal at least 100,000 euros: “They said there was a problem with our bank account”

In monasteries all over Flanders, the phones are ringing this summer, with not the Lord on the other side, but shown scammers. At least eight monasteries were already called by criminals who occur as bank employees. In Wetteren, at least 9,800 euros disappeared, in Oudenaarde there is tens of thousands of euros, in Tielt the damage rose to no less than 62,000 euros. HLN spoke with several affected sisters: “They asked about the sister who is responsible for our finances,” says a victim with a vibrating voice.
