Nowhere in the world is a difference between gross wage cost and net wage as large as for Belgian singles without children

Belgium remains world champion burden on labor, according to the latest report from the OECD, the organization of industrialized countries. For single people without children with an average wage, the difference between the gross wage cost and the net wage received in Belgium is 52.6 percent. Nowhere else is the difference (called “wedge” in economic terms) more than half.
