For Djokovic, it is his second tournament victory of 2025. In May, the current number 5 in the world rankings won the clay tournament in Geneva, the hundredth title of his career.

Musetti won the first set by breaking at 1-1 and then held onto that lead. Djokovic forced a third set by winning the Italian’s serve at 4-3 in the second set. In the deciding set, the Serbian took a break lead twice, but the Italian fought back. Djokovic posted another break at 5-5 by taking advantage of his fourth break point in that game. He then served out the match for another title.

The Serbian announced afterwards that he was withdrawing from the ATP Finals due to a shoulder injury. Musetti, who missed out on a ticket for the ATP Finals in Turin due to the defeat, can still participate. He replaces Djokovic in the Jimmy Connors group.

Elena Rybakina too strong for Aryna Sabalenka in WTA Finals

Elena Rybakina has won the WTA Finals, the end-of-year tournament with the best eight players of the year, for the first time. The 26-year-old tennis star from Kazakhstan defeated Aryna Sabalenka, the world number 1 from Belarus, in the final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: 6-3, 7-6 (0).

Rybakina, number 6 in the world rankings, reached the final of the WTA Finals for the first time. Sabalenka also reached the final in 2022, but lost to Caroline Garcia from France.

For Rybakina it was the fourth time this year that she faced Sabalenka. She won in Cincinnati, but lost in Berlin and Wuhan. In Riyadh, Rybakina won the serve against the Belarusian at 3-2 and that was enough for the win in the first set. There were no breaks in the second set, although Sabalenka had two break points at 5-4. In the tiebreak, Rybakina won seven points in a row to take the title.

“It’s an incredible week. I honestly didn’t expect to get this far,” said the tennis star from Kazakhstan, who had been suffering from a shoulder injury all week and was the last of the eight players to qualify for the WTA Finals. “Today it was a tough match. At some moments I was lucky, but that’s how it goes in tennis. I hope we can play many more finals against each other.”
