Injuries in football happen again and again. England’s Ryan Yates suffered a particularly nasty injury in the Europa League against Fenerbahçe Istanbul.

Unsightly pictures in the Europa League: Ryan Yates dislocated the little finger of his left hand in the early stages of the play-off second leg between Nottingham and Fenerbahçe Istanbul and continued playing. In just the seventh minute, the English midfielder fell to the ground, slipped on his stomach and got his finger caught in the turf.

He apparently dislocated it. The finger then stood out from the hand at an unnatural angle. On RTL, commentator Cornelius Cüpper reacted during the broadcast. “Oh, oh, oh oh. Now I’ve seen the finger,” the 34-year-old began and continued: “Oh dear. Dislocated once. It got stuck here and then slipped across the floor. And now you’d better look away if you have weak nerves.”

While RTL showed a repeat of the scene after the action, TNT Sports refrained from doing so in the English-language broadcast, according to the “Sportbible” portal.

Yates, meanwhile, remained calm, signaling he needed medical attention. The Nottingham physio team then dislocated the finger and Yates played as captain until he was substituted at half-time.

TNT Sports pundit Darren Fletcher commented on the behavior on TV: “It’s remarkable that he just signaled to the physiotherapist and said, ‘Can you please come and sort this out?'” Fletcher also explained that the replay was canceled because he didn’t want to spoil the audience’s appetite.
