Nottingham Forest records first win since return to Premier League | NOW

Nottingham Forest recorded their first win since the team’s return to the Premier League on Sunday. The PhD student was 1-0 too strong for West Ham United in front of his own audience.

Taiwo Awoniyi was crowned match winner at City Ground. The Nigerian, who played for NEC in the past, scored the only goal of the game just before half-time. Awoniyi worked in from close range after he luckily got the ball played against him by West Ham defender Ben Johnson.

Shortly before that, a goal by West Ham was disallowed after VAR intervention due to a foul by Said Benrahma. Nottingham also saw a goal canceled early in the second half on the advice of the VAR: Brennan Johnson was offside.

West Ham had the opportunity to tie the score midway through the second half, but Declan Rice’s penalty was stopped by Dean Henderson. The ball went on the dot because of a foul by Scott McKenna. In the sequel, the home side held on to the lead.

Nottingham were promoted to the Premier League last season after a 23-year absence. The team of coach Steven Cooper lost in the opening game at Newcastle United (2-0) last weekend.

Later in the day, the London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur is scheduled in the Premier League. Kick-off at Stamford Bridge will be at 5:30 PM.
