This Friday (March 24th) were official the nominations announced for the May 12 Rising Film Awards Ceremony. For this year’s 73rd edition, the war drama “Nothing New in the West” has been nominated for twelve prizes and already dominates the most prestigious award for German film from the outset. After the BAFTAs and Academy Awards, the Remarque Roman film adaptation seems to be winning at the next award ceremony.

The anti-war film is followed by The Classroom with seven nominations. The film adaptation of the Felix Lobrecht novel “Sonne und Beton” can also have legitimate hopes of a Lola thanks to four nominations, as can the historical drama “Sissi & Ich” and “Holy Spider” by Danish-Iranian director Ali Abbasi about the murder of prostitutes in Iran. Fatih Akin’s Xatar biopic “Rheingold” is nominated for “Best Film” but in no other category.

Tangible record – despite the lack of actresses

“Nothing New in the West” is the favorite in the main categories “Best Feature Film” and “Best Director”, “Best Camera” and Hauschka for the film music. Felix Kammerer and Albrecht Schuch are nominated for best leading and supporting actor respectively. The latter was already awarded Best Supporting Actor in 2020 and last year won his second Lola as Best Actor for his portrayal of Thomas Brasch in “Dear Thomas”. The biographical drama also received 12 nominations, winning nine. Record holders with ten prizes are the crime thriller “Nachts, when the Teufel came” from 1957 and the 2009 black-and-white film “Dasweiße Band – Eine deutsche Kindergeschichte”.
