With “Evolution” Nothing But Thieves open a new era. No new music has been heard from the Southend band since their fourth album “Dead Club City” in 2023. After their tenth anniversary in 2025, there is now a breath of fresh air: On Wednesday, May 20th, their new single “Evolution” premiered on YouTube. Where does Nothing But Thieves want to go with “Evolution”?

Continuous development

Carrying guitars, anthemic vocals: “Going through the Evolution”. The five-piece band reflects on their beginnings: The single was recorded in Angelic Studios – the same place where their debut album was recorded.

A return to old times or constant progress? Both at the same time. The charm lies in the authenticity of their music: Nothing But Thieves know where they come from and consciously refer to the DIY style of their beginnings: “It’s a song that doesn’t worry too much about finality. I think imperfection and authenticity are becoming more and more valuable, and that’s definitely something that attracts us.”

Humanity versus artificial intelligence

“Trying to be human,” sings lead singer Conor Mason in “Evolution.” Do Nothing But Thieves want to use this human “imperfection” to contrast with smoothed AI music? Because there’s one thing it doesn’t know: evolution. Artificial intelligence can only develop further with new data input. Nothing But Thieves prove that real, authentic music can still grow organically even after ten years in the industry.

Nothing But Thieves in Germany

If you would like to see the band live on stage, you will have the opportunity to do so during the festival summer: on June 20th they will play at the Hurricane and on June 21st at the Southside Festival. Tickets are still available for both festivals – a day pass costs 119 euros for the Hurricane and 129 euros for the Southside.
