A flat stone, good technique and a strong arm swing. That’s all it took on Saturday to attract hundreds of visitors to the Heerenlaakplas in Maaseik, Limburg, for the Belgian-Dutch stone skimming championship. What seems like a simple holiday game to many was taken very seriously. “If you throw further in training than in the match, that’s a bit of a shame,” said participant Hans Eshuis from Zeeland, who has been traveling to tournaments throughout Europe for years.
