As a youngster, Van Huizen was temporarily stationed by AZ at Telstar. He ended up in Velsen-Zuid with eight other players from AZ at the age of 20. “You are used to all those beautiful facilities in Alkmaar. Then you end up at Telstar and that is a tough pill to swallow. You just had to work hard at Telstar instead of players who were good at ball. Things went well for me at Telstar under Poortvliet,” Van Huizen looks back positively on that time.
AZ mercenary
After six months, AZ brought the defender back to Alkmaar, because trainer Gertjan Verbeek had seen Gill Swerts and Gijs Luirink leave in the meantime. It never came to a debut in the first team. Via Sparta, Van Huizen ended up back at the Witte Leeuwen in 2013. He then also played for De Graafschap and FC Dordrecht.
