Not a full year in office: NFL – Carolina Panthers fire head coach Frank Reich

As of: November 27, 2023 4:46 p.m

The Carolina Panthers have parted ways with their head coach Frank Reich in the NFL. Team owner David Tepper announced this on Monday.

It was widely expected that the Panthers would not be playing for the playoffs this NFL season, but after signing top talent Bryce Young as quarterback with the first pick in the last draft, they were hoping for some kind of optimism. The experienced coach Reich, who was just hired before the season, should help Young quickly integrate into a well-functioning offense in order to then get back towards the playoffs in the medium term after several unsuccessful years, in which they even won the Super Bowl in February 2016 had achieved.

Only one win from ten defeats

The offense in particular has been disappointing in almost every game so far this season, also due to a lack of quality in various positions. With just one win and 10 defeats, the Panthers are the worst team in the entire NFL. At the weekend they lost 10:17 against the Tennessee Titans after another weak performance.

Particularly bitter: Because they gave up the first-round selection right for the 2024 draft to the Chicago Bears in order to get Young in the 2023 draft, none of the top talents from next year will find their way to Carolina.

Chris Tabor takes over

In any case, the Panthers’ long-term prospects look anything but rosy – whether Reich’s dismissal will change anything is at least doubtful. In any case, the Panthers are not an attractive place for renowned and talented coaches in the current situation. In the short term, Chris Tabor, who was previously responsible for the Panthers’ special teams as coach, will take over the job on the sidelines.
