Norwegian former footballer dies at the age of 39

Former Norwegian footballer Mounir Hamoud has died. He was only 39 years old and leaves behind five children.

Norwegian former footballer Mounir Hamoud has died aged just 39. According to the Norwegian Football Association NFF and his former club Strömsgodset, the father of five suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday. An association representative explained that it was unreal that a healthy and great colleague could be torn away from you so suddenly. His death is a shock for the entire football family. On Monday, Hamoud actually wanted to take up a new position as a player developer in Strömsgodset.

Hamoud, who was born in Morocco, played for the Norwegian first division clubs Bodö/Glimt and Strömsgodset for a long time. The defender became champion with Strömsgodset in 2013. He also played several international matches for the Scandinavian country’s junior teams up to the U21 level.

He leaves behind five children

Although he did not play a game for the senior national team, he was on the substitutes’ bench for the first and only time in Norway’s surprising 1-0 win against Germany in Düsseldorf in 2009. In 2019 he ended his career as an active footballer.

Hamoud most recently worked for the association as district manager for player development in the Buskerud province for the past four years. In addition to his wife Monika, he also leaves five children.
