The final of the Eurovision Song Contest will pass the Netherlands this year: Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper stranded yesterday with their much-criticized song Burning daylight in the semi-final. So on to next year and that can really be better. Let North Holland just burst with musical talent. Selection committee, are you paying attention?

‘Nominated’ Artists – NH

If necessary, get acquainted with the ‘creme de la creme’ of North Holland music talent. Will you help us choose afterwards? Who do you think should go to the Eurovision Song Contest for us?

Anthony (Midwoud)

Hello, Hotel school and Emergency lane: Antoon is 21 years old, and it is already impossible to imagine the Dutch charts without it. When he was 15 years old, he was accepted as the youngest candidate ever at the Herman Brood Academy. That has paid off. In addition to huge hits, he also has his own documentary to his name. The artist is already used to large stages, because he has already stood in front of a full Ziggo Dome. So it won’t be due to experience and it hardly gets more North Holland than Antoon.

Claude (Enkhuizen)

About ten years ago he fled Congo, once in the Netherlands he participated in various talent shows, including The Voice. His real breakthrough came through his hit Ladada. In one fell swoop, the 20-year-old became world famous in the Netherlands. And let’s be honest: with Ladada would Claude have won the Eurovision Song Contest this year with two fingers in the nose?

Mell & Vintage Future (Volendam)

This band is doing well. Melanie Jonk (29), singer of the band and granddaughter of Piet Veerman, was already the support act for Eric Clapton in the Ziggo Dome. It will therefore not be due to her stage experience either. The band was in the final of the talent program We Want Moreand also they already have several hits such as Forever be in their name.

It may not immediately ring a bell, but Rani from Heerhugowaard – or Shannon Hilversum as her full name is – has already scored a big hit. Together with DJ Sam Feldt, she already stormed the charts with the song Mail Malone. In short, she is doing well. Why not give her success another push at the Eurovision Song Contest?

Bench sitters (including Haarlem)

This group of guys started their own YouTube channel in 2015, when they probably didn’t expect to give two sold-out shows in January of this year at Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht. The guys have millions of listeners with their hits Your Gaze Towards Me and crazy. It would be different for once, but without risk no success, right?

Hang Youth (Amsterdam)

Okay, it’s not necessarily the genre you would immediately expect at the Eurovision Song Contest. Or well, it can also be even crazier. Meet Hang Youth. They make punk rock, come from Amsterdam and have an ever-growing fan base. And let’s be honest: how North Holland is it if you have one of your songs left Tata Steel let go?
