Nordic Combined | “Would be nice”: Eric Frenzel can imagine a job as a national coach

Exceptional athlete Eric Frenzel can imagine a job as a trainer and eventually also as a national trainer in Nordic combined after his active career.

“Nordic combined is the sport that I love and in which I have gained a lot of experience. It would be nice to pass things on,” said the 34-year-old of the “German Press Agency”.

“I think that the athletes would benefit from it – whether they were youngsters or higher up. I wouldn’t have a problem trying it out. But there haven’t been any discussions in that direction yet. I’ll let that come to me.”

Frenzel ends his sports career with the end of the season at the weekend in Lahti, Finland. The long-standing national coach Hermann Weinbuch is also retiring.

Eric Frenzel doesn’t want to “disappear completely”

With 18 medals, Frenzel is the most decorated male athlete at the Nordic World Ski Championships. Even if he doesn’t yet know how things will continue for him after this winter: Turning his back on the combination completely is out of the question for Frenzel.

“I’m pretty sure I don’t want to completely disappear from the scene as far as the sport is concerned. Our sport is at a crossroads,” he said. “I would like to do my part to ensure that this great sport continues to have the status it should have. The combination should remain Olympic. I could not reconcile with my conscience to withdraw completely and leave everything sporting behind me.”

The future of the combination at the Winter Games after 2026 is open.
