Austria and Germany with two teams at the start

In addition to the Geiger/Schmid duo, Johannes Rydzek and Jakob Lange will also form a team from a German perspective. However, the two strong athletes will have trouble keeping in touch on the hill. In addition to Lamparter and Rettenegger, Rehrl and Greiderer should form a duo for the Austrians. The Austrian understudy is good for a surprise as Rehrl is a very good knight and Greiderer is a strong bishop.

The favorite teams

After the provisional competition round, the coaches nominated their teams. Interestingly, Norway will start with 1 Riiber and Graabak, while Oftebro is likely to be rested. Should Graabak weaken on the hill, a door could open for Germany 1 (Schmid/Geiger) and Austria (Lamparter/Rettenegger). In addition, the powerful local heroes from Finland (Hiervonen/Herloa) and the French duo (Baud/Muhlethaler) could also intervene at the front. A total of 17 teams from ten nations are at the start.

This is how the provisional competition run went

The provisional competition round is more relevant with regard to the individual competitions at the weekend, but the coaches will use it as a basis for their line-ups. Unsurprisingly, the Norwegian Jarl-Magnus Riiber ended up in first place, with 136 meters again turned a stadium lap. Second and third place went to Johannes Lamparter (AUT) and Jens Luuras Oftebro (NOR), who jumped 124.5 and 123.5 meters. The other places were followed by the strong jumpers Rehrl (AUT), Ilves (EST) and Yamamoto (JAP). As expected, the best DSV athlete was Julian Schmid, who was eighth with 121 meters. Terrence Weber (12th) and Manuel Faißt (17th) finished in the top 20, while Rydzek, Frenzel, Geiger and Lange finished 20th and 30th.

Today’s format

Before there are two individual competitions on Saturday and Sunday, today it is the turn of the rarely held team sprint. In contrast to the team competition, the participating nations appear with duos. From 10:00 a.m. each athlete has to complete a jump from the HS-130 hill in Lahti before the cross-country skiing starts at 12:30 p.m. Both athletes have to alternately cover 1.25 kilometers six times, which is why a total of 15 kilometers are completed.
