Noordscheschut possibly deleted from bus line between Hoogeveen-Emmen

The public transport agency Groningen Drenthe is investigating whether the bus line (27) from Hoogeveen to Emmen can be adjusted. It runs through Noordscheschut, but there are four thresholds on the route through the village that cause delays. The organization is now investigating whether they can detour on the A37. That would result in savings of 60,000 euros on an annual basis.

Alderman Roelof Bisschop announced this news tonight during the council meeting in Hoogeveen. “It is news that we are not happy with at all,” he says. “At the moment we are talking to them to see if we can stop this. We want to ensure that the bus continues to drive past the stops in Noordscheschut.”

Public bus transport in Drenthe and Groningen has to cut back considerably. A deficit of 8.2 million euros threatens for next year. This means, among other things, that bus lines will be canceled or adjusted. That should ultimately save money.

A number of political groups in the council are concerned about this news. Hilma Hooijer of Gemeentebelangen, who herself comes from Noordscheschut, among others, thinks it is a strange action. She therefore indicated that everything should be done to maintain the current route.

Bishop said that next Wednesday there will be a new meeting with the public transport agency. “Then we will find out what is still possible. Many people get on to Emmen via Noordscheschut. Everything is important to maintain the route.”
