Noel Gallagher uses wrong pronouns for Sam Smith

Sam Smith announced in September 2019 that the pop star would now prefer the non-binary “they/them” pronouns. In an interview by the Dutch radio station kink However, Noel Gallagher said he thought Sam Smith was “uncool” as a pop star in general and continued to use “he/him” pronouns to refer to Smith.

Gallagher’s original sentences went like this:

“Music has become quite fractured and chart music is dominated by pop. Pop music is alright if the pop stars are cool. Sadly the stars of today are fucking idiots.”

When asked who one of these uncool pop stars was, for example, Gallagher replied: “Sam Smith”. Why? “Look at him!”

Sam Smith’s misgendering is not an isolated case. Smith corrected Alex Jones on the BBC just last week the one show. Also in 2020, Shawn Mendes announced the star with wrong pronouns at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball. While Gallagher hasn’t yet apologized for using incorrect pronouns, Mendes shared in an Instagram Story at the time that “it’s not going to happen again.” Sam Smith accepted the apology and reinforced his learning process.

Sam Smith’s new album “Gloria” was released on January 27, 2023. With the single “Unholy” (feat. Kim Petras), the two singers won, among other things, the Grammy for best pop duo.
