At the age of 86, Frans de Beers is the living interpretation of ‘a scratchy crack’. This weekend he lifted 100 kilos during a powerlift competition in Haaren. “I always wanted to be the best,” he says about this achievement. “I’m a bit of an egotripper,” I think.

The kilos that this very elderly man lifts up the air for everyone force respect. His trainer Menzo knows that this would be a world record if this happened in an official competition. “You have to see today’s game in Haaren as a friendly game.”

Unchangeable
Frans has always been sporty and has not only achieved impressive results in the gym. “I have climbed the Kilimanjaro four times, so that is no longer a challenge,” he grins. He also has the Himalayas to his name.

Frans trains twice a week in the gym. “I feel good about that and feel fit. People think they are entitled to health, but I think you should also do something for that,” he explains his motivation.
