Singer-songwriter Noah Kahan has thrown his support behind Chappell Roan following this week’s viral incident in which she filmed several aggressive photographers in Paris who wouldn’t leave her alone. Kahan took a position on Instagram – first with a screenshot of an article about the incident, then with a video in which he made his support clear.
Roan made headlines on Monday when she pointed the camera at several people who were following her on her way to dinner. In the clip, which quickly went viral on social media, she says: “I just want to go out to eat and I’ve asked these people multiple times to leave me alone.” The video continues: “I kindly ask you all to leave me alone and stop following me and harassing me. No, I will not sign anything. This is what it looks like, in case you were wondering what it is like.”
Sharing a Billboard headline detailing the incident, Kahan wrote, “Maybe they should just leave her alone? And these guys saying ‘I’m a huge fan’ and going after her are scalpers and just as bad as the paparazzi. Fuck em all.”

He deepened his point of view in a video. Some viewers had interpreted the situation as Roan being rude to her fans – but Kahan clarified that the people asking for photos are often not real fans. “These people are literally finding out where you live, where you fly in, where your team, your family, whoever is staying – and they are clearly not fans of you,” he says in the video. “They just stand in front of buildings and try to guilt-trip you into signing something so they can sell it. And they trick people like you, who see the video and don’t know what’s really going on, into thinking someone is being rude to their fans – and they’re just manipulating you.”
And further: “They are disgusting, manipulative, parasitic – and yes, fuck ‘em.”
Kahan is busy this year with his fourth album, The Great Divide, due out April 24th. It is the follow-up to 2022’s “Stick Season,” which earned him a nomination for Best New Artist at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
