No World Cup medal for Jessica Schilder; Lieke Klaver to semi-finals 400 meters

Jessica Schilder was unable to score well at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow. The 24-year-old shot putter from Volendam did not get further than fifth place with a distance of 19.37 meters.

A big setback for Schilder, as she reached 20.31 meters at the National Indoor Athletics Championships two weeks ago. With that distance she topped the global indoor rankings this winter.

The European champion in 2022 was therefore also a favorite in the section. She won bronze at the previous World Championships.

Lieke Klaver was successful. The runner from Enkhuizen easily reached the semi-finals of the 400 meters in Glasgow. She won the series and will be in the semi-finals on Friday evening. “I won’t let myself be fooled anymore. I’m going to make the best of it,” she looked ahead to the rest of the tournament.

Ryan Clarke’s debut ended with a deception. De Castricummer ran the fourth fastest time in his series on the 800 meters and that was not enough to go to the semi-finals.
