Weak first half

Anyone who had expected a racy duel for the climb were initially deceived. Above all, the first half was an enormously tough affair. No team even went to the risk, there was nothing to be seen of the pace and determination. Almost everything took place between the penalty areas, where you were waiting for the opponent’s mistakes.

The first reasonably good opportunity was in the 25th minute when Elversberg’s Robin Fellhauer took off the second row. Düsseldorf’s goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier was on the spot.

Shortly before the break it suddenly became wild. First Kastmeier fished a shot from Muhammed Damar from the Toreck. At the subsequent corner, the ball landed after a short tohuwabohu and a header by Carlo Sickinger At the post of the Düsseldorf gate. Otherwise there were a lot of half chances away from all the goal – with advantages for the home side, the Fortuna completely disappointed.

Düsseldorf’s leadership out of the blue

The Elversberger took the momentum with half two. Shortly after the restart, after a nice attack on the right there was the first chance, but Kastenmeier parried the shot from Tom Zimmerschied. A little later the goalkeeper was also on hand against Manuel Feil.

The Düsseldorf lead then fell out of the blue. Lukas Pinckert covered the ball against Jóhannesson a few meters in front of the goal. The Icelander immediately pulled off and hammered the ball under the crossbar.

Compensation from the penalty point

But the lead did not last long. After a foul by Jamil Siebert to Fellhauer on the edge of the box, referee Robert Hartmann pointed to the penalty point. Sickinger kept his nerves and converted into a deserved compensation.
