The court in Breda did not rule on Monday in the case against Werner de R. from Tilburg. He is suspected of stabbing to death Hennie de Laat (58) from Tilburg. The court still has questions for the DNA expert in the case.
The R. denies in all keys. His lawyer already argued at the hearing that he has strong doubts whether the DNA traces found have anything to do with the crime. The R. bought user quantities of cocaine from the woman.
DNA from nail edge
The court received an additional report on the sampling of the victim’s nails at the beginning of December, just before the substantive hearing. It states that DNA was also taken from the nail edge, while an earlier report from 2021 states that DNA was only taken from under the nails. The court has additional questions about this.
“It is also not sufficiently clear whether the expert was aware that the suspect and the victim had seen each other socially in the period before her death,” the court stated. The investigation by the examining magistrate takes time. “The court is aware that the surviving relatives need a final judgment.”
