The first problems occurred in early February when part of the minehunter’s exhaust system overheated. This caused smoke development, but there was no fire at the time. The Bruges fire brigade arrived on site to cool the heated areas. No one was injured.
A month later, a fire broke out on board the M940 Ostend. According to Minister Francken, technical research now shows that the fire was caused by incorrectly placed insulation around the chimney.
