Amsterdam – For the first time in history, there will be no speeches from politicians during the annual commemoration of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. The Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, responsible for the organization, has decided to focus entirely on the voices of the survivors. That decision raises questions. Because although there will be no political statements from the stage, the commemoration itself, including who is and is not welcome, is undeniably politically charged.
