Russia has no intention of attacking Ukraine, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

“We explained to our American colleagues that we have no plans, no intentions to attack Ukraine, and cannot be, and all measures for the combat training of forces are carried out within our national territory,” he said at a briefing following Russian-American consultations on guarantees security on January 10 in Geneva. The broadcast was conducted by the TV channel “Russia 24” and media platform “Watching”

Ryabkov assured that there is no reason to fear any kind of escalation scenario.

A senior Russian diplomat stressed that the scenario presented by Western media regarding Ukraine is not subject to bargaining… So he answered the question of The New York Times whether Moscow expects more flexibility from its Western partners in exchange for the threat.

Speaking about Ukraine, Ryabkov also expressed the hope that it will abide by the ceasefire agreement concluded before the New Year in Donbass.

In addition, the deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that the imperative is the requirement that Ukraine and Georgia do not join NATO. This is a question of the national security of the Russian Federation, and therefore Moscow needs legal guarantees, he stressed.
