Zero on the petition
The initiative can count on the sympathy of the council and the alderman. “We also think a knarrenhof is very beautiful,” responds councilor Rosalie van Rijn. But those behind the wheel can still whistle for its realization on the grounds of the Terpstra school.
The original main building from 1931 is on the municipal monument list. That makes the realization of a court quite difficult.
The municipality’s proposed ‘sales frameworks’ state that the main building must be restored for ‘social facilities.’ The newer buildings behind them can be demolished to make room for housing.
All this would be very expensive for potential project developers, which, according to the municipality, would require 21 owner-occupied apartments: half for a maximum of 450,000 euros and the other half in the private sector.
Abandon wish
But if it is up to the citizens’ initiative, that monumental status must be removed immediately so that the entire building can be demolished. It is then up to the national Knarrenhof foundation to realize the court as a project developer. But with these frameworks from the municipality, this wish for a court on the site is not possible.
The Courteous Citizens’ Initiative announces that they have given up their wish, but continue to aggressively search for a new location. The council will discuss this further on October 30.
