Less than a month before No Doubt reunites at their Las Vegas Sphere residency, guitarist Tom Dumont has announced that he was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s disease.

“The last few months preparing for the No Doubt Sphere shows have been really nice,” Dumont said in a video posted to social media on Saturday.

“Going through old footage, looking at old photos, rehearsing old songs, rehearsing and doing all the video footage for the Sphere. It kind of made me think about how grateful I am for the life I’ve been able to lead – all these years as a musician. I owe that to our families, our friends, our listeners, you and everyone who has come to our shows over the years.”

Fight against the disease

The guitarist, who joined No Doubt in 1988, then turned the conversation to his health. “Several years ago, I noticed a number of symptoms. I went to my doctor, to a neurologist, had a whole battery of tests done – and was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s,” Dumont said. “It’s a fight, every single day.”

Dumont said he would release another video in which he would explain his diagnosis and the symptoms he is facing in more detail. Despite the illness, he will take part in No Doubt’s upcoming Sphere shows, which are scheduled to begin on May 6th.

“The good news is I can still make music, I can still play guitar. Things are going really well,” Dumont said. “I’ve been inspired by other people who have been open about their health issues on social media. I think it helps break down stigma and of course raises awareness – and awareness is really important for prevention and research.”

Dumont concluded his video statement by saying, “I’m really looking forward to the shows and can’t wait to see everyone again.”

No Doubt drummer Adrian Young commented on Dumont’s video, saying, “My friend, my bandmate and my hero… I love you bro.” Bassist Tony Kanal added: “I love you beyond measure, my friend. I can’t wait to be on stage with you again.”
