The KNMI has declared code orange from 10 p.m. tonight. An area of precipitation will move towards the north during the evening. where snow and sleet are also expected.
‘We are in the coldest part of the country, so here you get the fastest ice. At the beginning of the evening there could already be a bit of rain,” says RTV Drenthe weatherwoman Grieta Spannenburg. “But actually later in the evening, tonight and tomorrow morning, a precipitation zone will follow. That all seems to be a bit more active, rain, snow or sleet can fall on a cold surface. Because both the air temperature and the road surface temperature are below zero, this will cause slippery conditions.” Code orange will last until 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Rijkswaterstaat warns road users in the northern three provinces because of the slippery conditions. “The urgent advice for road users in the provinces of Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland: Do not take to the road if not necessary,” the road manager reports.
This afternoon at 4 p.m., code yellow is already in force in Drenthe due to slippery conditions, so it will switch to code orange at 10 p.m.
