‘Why only a report?! We can also do something interesting’, thought Mariëlle Giezen (17) and Nox Vereijken (16). “So we decided to write a play,” Nox says enthusiastically. Their performance Fosziel premiered on Sunday afternoon in Pand P in Eindhoven.
Nox worked on Fosziel for a year together with Mariëlle Giezen (17). “Marielle and I both really love acting, theater. We have both been in different theater groups for a long time.”
Writing a play, holding auditions, rehearsing, finding a suitable theater, there was quite a bit involved. “I really didn’t expect it to be so big and that we would arrange a whole room. I thought we would just be at school somewhere,” Nox laughs. “A year later, the time has finally come! The nerves are there.”
Because how is everyone going to react? “The most exciting thing is that the audience comes in immediately. I am very curious whether the audience can follow the story. And secretly I hope they will cry,” Mariëlle chuckles. “Our teachers didn’t believe it at first. They were completely confused. But they will all come to the performance later.
“She sometimes makes up the lyrics at the kitchen table.”
The play Fosziel tells the story of a young man who is called up to fight against the Germans during the Second World War. Seven young people between the ages of 12 and 18 participate in the play. The audience is playfully torn between the life of a soldier and that of an unsuspecting girl who visits a war museum and is guided through the story of the young soldier.
Mariëlle’s father Mike Giezen is already very proud. “It is exciting and it takes some getting used to the fact that this time she is not on stage herself, but has directed it.” Her mother Inge van Boxtel is also looking forward to the performance. “We are very proud of her, especially because she wrote and performed it all herself. She sometimes makes up the lyrics at the kitchen table.”
