The Nintendo Switch handheld console, released in 2017, has been the heir to the mantle for a couple of years now. The device has been very popular, and recently it passed by In the United States, Sony’s Playstation 2 is the country’s second best-selling game console.
Despite Nintendo’s silence, various information about the Switch’s successor has slowly leaked out at an accelerating pace. A bit atypical for Nintendo, for example supports games on the original Switch.
Now the wait for a successor is finally over.
Nintendo has published a two-minute introduction video about the device on several of its YouTube channels. You can watch the video below as an embed or from this link.
Based on the video, the successor to the Switch is actually called “Switch 2”, as it has been called for a long time for lack of a better one.
The device is clearly larger than the original Switch. Unlike the original, there is also a handy support leg. Based on the video, the keys of the detachable Joy-Con controllers stay in the same place.
However, the Switch 2 seems to say goodbye to the original’s color scheme, as its exterior is a dark gray. The familiar bright red and blue are hidden on the sides of the controls, which are hidden against the device itself.
There is little actual technical information in the announcement video. For now, it remains a mystery, for example, how much storage space the device has for games.
Nintendo promises at the end of the video and on their websitethat there will be more information about Switch 2 on April 2nd.
