Nineteen cats (including nine pregnant females) locked in one car

Last week, the police found the nineteen cats in a car with the window ajar. The facts took place on Tuesday, March 7, but could, for the sake of further investigation, be just now being released.

At about 1 p.m. that day, a report came in from the Konterdam district that there were several cats in a parked car. A star on site, the police determined that a window of the vehicle was ajar and the seats in the rear were laid flat. In total, the police forces hit as many as nineteen cats, nine of which were pregnant again. The youngest animal was eight months old, the oldest is estimated to be three years old.

After investigation, the police found the owner, a 49-year-old woman without a fixed date address. The cats had been in the car since the night before. The police contained everything an official report, the public prosecutor will further investigate the incident. The cats became taken to three recognized asylum centers in Ostend, Bruges and Koksijde.

“Without wishing to comment on this matter, we call on all cat owners to sterilize or castrate the animal in time. It can avoid distressing situations. By the way, this has been mandatory since August 31, 2014, along with chipping and registration of the animal. Anyone who sells or donates a cat must also have it neutered or sterilize. This obligation is there to avoid any nuisance, but also for the sake of it to ensure the welfare of the animals,” the Ostend police said.
