So far, Niko Springer has had to search for longer in the world rankings. But the German dart player makes a big leap upwards after a sensational success.

The “Meenzer Bub” suddenly suddenly enthroned: Niko Springer has won the European Tour tournament in Hungary’s capital completely unexpectedly and was surprised with the greatest success of his previous career.

“My goal was to qualify for the World Cup. I did it a few months ago, so I can play freely now. I have nothing to lose and I am very happy that I won this title,” said Springer after the narrow 8: 7 final victory against the Dutch Nappert.

The “Meenzer Bub” previously prevailed against strong competition: Among other things, he defeated the English ex-world champion Rob Cross and Luke Humphries as well as Josh Rock from Northern Ireland and Australia’s top player Damon Heta. Springer was considered an outsider in all six tournament games.

With this success, Springer joins an exclusive district of German darts professionals. Previously, only Max Hopp (2018), Ricardo Pietreczko (2023) and Martin Schindler (2024 and 2025) had won a European Tour tournament. “You can see the audience is fantastic, they supported me, and I think I did a good job,” said Springer on stage – visibly moved and in a modest manner.

With the title win, Springer also secured a place at the European Championship, which takes place in Dortmund from October 23 to 26. In the world rankings of the PDC, too, he makes a jump up through the victory.
