Ex-Bayern coach now apparently favorite in Dortmund

Nuri Şahin is no longer coach of Borussia Dortmund after just six months. The hottest lead for his successor leads, of all people, to an ex-Bayern coach.
After the expulsion of Nuri Şahin, Niko Kovač is now being discussed as the favorite for the coaching position at Borussia Dortmund. According to information from the “Bild” newspaper, the club bosses are most likely to trust the former FC Bayern coach and player to lead the club out of the crisis and achieve Champions League qualification. The TV channel Sky also reports interest in the Croatian.
BVB is currently only in tenth place in the Bundesliga. The poor physical condition of the team recently puzzled those responsible. Kovač, who is considered a mentality type and a hard worker, could possibly be the right choice.
BVB is said to have already had its first contacts with Kovač. However, it is still unclear whether a partnership will come about. Kovač, who most recently worked as coach of VfL Wolfsburg, would initially only be a temporary solution until the end of the season. If he convinces the BVB bosses during this time, he could be offered a longer-term contract in the summer. Another advantage of the possible Kovač commitment is that the 53-year-old could bring his brother Robert, who was a professional in the BVB squad from 2007 to 2009, as an assistant coach.
Joachim Löw, Urs Fischer, Erik ten Hag and Roger Schmidt were considered other candidates at BVB. However, the hottest lead at the moment seems to be leading to Kovač. U19 coach Mike Tullberg will definitely look after the team at the home game against Werder Bremen on Saturday.
After BVB’s defeat in Bologna (1:2), BVB advisor Matthias Sammer spoke devastating words that affected players and former coaches alike. “This team is in a bad state physically and mentally,” said Sammer in his increasingly strange dual role as BVB consultant and TV expert. “Unfortunately she can’t defend, and she can’t attack either.” The new coach has a lot of work to do.
