There were quite a few who saw Niko Kovač’s commitment critically at BVB. The trainer has instructed her better – and can now look forward to a special reward for his work.
When Nuri Şahin was released at the end of January, Borussia Dortmund had to act quickly. The decision was made on the experienced Niko Kovač – a temporary solution, as many suspected at the time. The club was in a difficult sporting situation, many experts did not trust the former Bavaria and Frankfurt coach.
And you were also careful with the club. Kovač received only one contract for one and a half years. But in the event that the international business is missed this season, clear severance modalities for the summer were determined in advance.
The separation would have been uncomplicated and calculable for the association. According to reports, BVB would have had to pay around three million euros for the 53-year-old and his assistant coach Robert Kovač and Filip Tapalović.
But it turned out differently: Kovač led the BVB to the Champions League with a remarkable final sprint and seven wins from the last eight games. As a result, the commitment originally intended as an emergency solution – with financial consequences.
Instead of a severance payment, the club must now pay the coach a special bonus of around 750,000 euros. This was also directly agreed when the contract is concluded. The “picture” reports.
However, they will be happy to pay them in Dortmund, given the losses that the association would have done when missing the premier class. For comparison: the entry fee in Champions League is 18.62 million euros. This is only 4.31 million for the Europa League.
