The central defender had only recently returned. Now his old injury has reopened. This forces Niklas Süle to take a long break.
Borussia Dortmund will have to be without Niklas Süle for months. The central defender has again suffered a “serious injury” to the right syndesmosis, as coach Nuri Şahin confirmed before the Champions League game against FC Barcelona on Wednesday (9 p.m./DAZN).
“It’s completely unfortunate, the same spot twice, it’s the same injury,” said Sahin. “It’s very, very bitter because we really needed him right now. Unfortunately, we can’t change that.” The 29-year-old Süle had been out for a longer period of time since mid-October and only returned at the end of November.
