Nikkie Plessen has removed some AI photos to promote her clothing after fierce criticism. She is clearly shocked by the commotion. “What she is doing should be illegal,” she said.
RTL Boulevard expert Nikkie Plessen is again under fire for her working methods as a fashion entrepreneur. This time it revolves around AI images with which she promoted her clothing, without being open about it. The criticism was so fierce that the photos in question have already been edited or removed. What exactly is it?
Wrong throat hole
According to influencer and photographer Lisa van Dam, Nikkie used AI images of models that closely resemble celebrities such as Irina Shayk and Hailey Bieber to promote her clothing line. The big problem: nowhere was it clearly stated that it was AI. And it is precisely that lack of transparency that goes wrong.
Lisa therefore publicly raised the alarm on Instagram and was remarkably fierce. “It irritates me quite a bit that I see these types of AI campaigns happening more and more often lately,” she writes, according to The Telegraph.
Rise of AI
What Nikkie is doing is insane, Lisa thinks. “I understand that AI is being used in the fashion world these days, but using the appearance of real people for your own commercial purposes is inappropriate. Without attribution or transparency. That should be illegal.”
Remarkably, there is no substantive response from Nikkie Plessen herself. However, the images quickly disappeared or were modified with a label showing that AI had been used. “The images in question have now been adjusted and correctly labeled. I have achieved my goal,” says Lisa.
