The fashion label Iamisigo won the Zalando Visionary Award.
The Nigerian brand is praised for “pioneering research into craftsmanship and innovative textile techniques”, according to the press release. Through the victory, Iamisigo will present the SS26 collection next August at Copenhagen Fashion Week. In addition, the label receives 50,000 euros and is supported in the production of the show. Zalando will also support the label with mentoring, networking options and “tailor-made resources”. Last but not least, the label is supervised by Dio Kurazawa, founder of The Bear Scouts.
Iamisigo was founded by Bubi Ogisi. The designer “connects inherited textiles with traditional handicraft techniques from all over Africa”. “The result is a collection with contemporary designs and a daring, fresh perspective,” said the press release. The jury describes Ogisi as a visionary and a rare creative talent in today’s fashion world.
