Actually, Nigeria has already failed in the fight for World Cup qualification. But a complaint against another country should make it work.
The Nigerian Football Association has officially lodged a complaint with Fifa against the DR Congo. The background is allegations that the DR Congo is said to have used players who were not eligible to play in the decisive play-off final in Morocco. Nigeria hopes that this complaint will give it a chance to take part in the 2026 World Cup. Several international media report this unanimously.
At the center of the allegations are players like Aaron Wan-Bissaka from West Ham United. The defender is British by birth and has an English passport. However, according to the Nigerian association, the regulations of the DR Congo do not allow dual citizenship. The “Super Eagles” also complain that other Congolese have French citizenship.
Nigeria lost 3-4 on penalties to DR Congo in the final of the African play-offs and thus missed out on qualifying for the Intercontinental play-offs. The DR Congo is now scheduled to play against the winner of the duel between New Caledonia and Jamaica on March 31st, playing for one of the last tickets to the 2026 World Cup.
