During the cruise, two guides dress in historical costumes and tell the story of the fishermen and their families. “With this aperitif cruise we link heritage to experience and introduce young and old to a piece of forgotten history in an accessible and interactive way,” says Andy Olislagers of Rederij Seastar.

The shipping company wants to work innovatively with the new cruise. “We notice that our travelers today expect more than just a boat trip. They are also looking for experience, atmosphere and an experience that will linger. From that thought, the idea for a new cruise arose,” says Olislagers. “This new excursion focuses on the Icelandic sailors, what they meant to our coast and on fishing in general. We are working with Filip Berquet and Iris Sinnaeve, two experienced guides who bring that story to life.”

Added value

The city therefore sees the new cruise as an added value. “You get to know Nieuwpoort from the water in a surprising way and you will soon discover the fish market, the marinas, the promenade with its works of art and our Westfront museum,” says mayor Kris Vandecasteele (CD&V).

On May 23, during the Fisheries Weekend, visitors can sail for the first time. The trip takes about an hour and includes a drink and a fish snack.
