A fire broke out in an empty building on Kopsstraat in Nieuw-Vennep this morning around 9:00 am. The fire released a lot of smoke and the nearby gym was evacuated. The police have now arrested a man (18) from Nieuw-Vennep.
The vacant building is ‘completely on fire’, a fire brigade spokesperson told NH. “Because it is a large building, we have scaled up.”
Gym evacuated
There would be no people present in what is probably a former thrift store. However, the gym just down the street has been evacuated. Local residents are advised via an NL alert to keep windows and doors closed.
Burgernet asked to look out for white boys with blond hair, aged 17 to 19, around 1.80 meters tall with a cream-colored coat. An 18-year-old Nieuw-Venneper was arrested during the morning, a police spokesperson told NH. The investigation into the suspected arson is currently ongoing.
It is not the first time that a fire has broken out in the vacant building. The fire brigade also had to respond in September.
