Nielson hardly received any support from colleagues in the profession when he fell prey to Yvonne Coldeweijer more than two years ago. “They didn’t call me when I was down,” the singer said.
It was hell for Nielson in 2022, a few days before Christmas: then juice queen Yvonne Coldeweijer revealed that he was cheating on his wife. His unmasking as a wolf in sheep’s clothing gave him a bitter Christmas. To make matters worse, his friend was a rather creepy fan who kept showing up at his concerts.
Canceled
Does Nielson think Yvonne’s revelation will stick with him? “I don’t know. In any case, I didn’t try to save my image. I wanted to save my marriage. I really wanted that,” he says A.D.
“I don’t think I’ve been cancelled. I certainly don’t have that feeling. Everyone can decide that for themselves. But I did feel it for a while, what that is like. And that was intense.”
Public opinion
Many people were shocked by Nielson’s true nature. “I don’t want to absolve myself. But if I had been, say, Lil’ Kleine, no one would have crowed about it. But I’m Nielson. And I made a tear in something. Which shocked everyone for a moment. But I think the dust has settled now. Now we can talk about it, right?”
Did he lose friends because of it? “Yes, people have left my life. Also people I have worked with for a long time. It’s not one-dimensional, of course, but this was a drop, apparently. It was a lonely phase.”
Colleagues in profession
Remarkably, Nielson heard little from colleagues during the entire juice scandal. “Colleagues in the music industry? I think everyone could relate to what happened to me.”
“No one from the music world really dared to condemn me, because they know that everyone will have their turn sooner or later. But they didn’t call me when I was down either. I don’t have that many friends in the music industry.”
