It wasn’t until the third round that there was some action for the first time. Gerben Kuypers, long ago that he made waves in the Flemish field, placed a gear in the sandbox. Kuypers already won in Luxembourg this year and wanted to show his form again. Wyseure tried to join in for a West Flemish get-together, but Vanthourenhout slipped along as a disruptor.
Under Vandeputte’s impetus, everything came together again halfway through. A leading group of five entered the final. Vanthourenhout and Wyseure made the best impression and put the rest under heavy pressure. Only Vandeputte could follow, so the trio entered the final round together. Vandeputte appeared to be the only one left with a surplus and raced to victory on the technical passage. Vanthourenhout came second. Nieuwenhuis completed the podium despite a slide.
In the women’s race, the victory went to the French Amandine Fouquenet. She won in her first cross for her new employer (Pauwels Sauzen-Altez).
