Germany’s best figure skater Nicole Schott missed a place in the top ten at the end of the European Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn.
In the freestyle, the six-time national champion from Essen could no longer improve with too many mistakes and a fall in the triple Rittberger. With 170.18 points, she fell back two places to 13th place. The 25-year-old Olympic participant missed her goal of being in the top ten and securing two starting places for the German women next winter.
“It was definitely not the best freestyle, but I have to honestly say that the preparation wasn’t that good,” said Schott, who was handicapped by a corona booster vaccination and a cold. “After the first jump combination wasn’t triple-triple, I didn’t tackle the Rittberger consistently enough.”
Valiyeva before Sherbakova and Trusova
Russia celebrated a triple triumph in the women’s category. The only 15-year-old Kamila Valiewa became European Champion with a magnificent freestyle with 259.06 points. She is now the top favorite for Olympic gold in Beijing. World champion Anna Scherbakowa (237.42) won silver at the European Championships, bronze was secured by Alexandra Trusowa (234.36), third at the World Championships.
Despite a sovereign freestyle, Dortmund’s Katharina Müller and Tim Dieck only made a small step forward in the ice dance hierarchy. With 170.27 points, they moved up one position to twelfth place. “I found that we stood our ground very well. We are satisfied,” said Müller. The duo had awarded a better placement with a not so successful short program, with which they only ended up in 13th place.
The world champions Victoria Sinizina/Nikita Kazalapow from Russia successfully defended their European Championship title with 217.96 points. Their compatriots Alexandra Stepanova/Iwan Bukin (213.20) came second, third place went to Charlene Guignard/Marco Fabbri (207.97) from Italy.
