Nico Schlotterbeck causes a stir with “Layla” performance

The fact that newcomers have to sing at team nights is nothing new. A BVB star chose a song for the debut that had caused controversy in the past few weeks.

In the Bundesliga it is normal for newcomers to perform a debut song in front of the entire team at the start of the season. Most of the time it ends with more or less crooked vocals.

It was no different at Borussia Dortmund this week. After the new goalkeeper Alexander Meyer belted out Neil Daimond’s “Sweet Caroline” at full volume, Nico Schlotterbeck stepped in front of his colleagues.

And the national player, who switched from SC Freiburg to Westphalia, decided on a party hit from Mallorca: “Layla” by DJ Robin and Schurze. The song had caused controversy in recent weeks after being banned by local politicians at some folk festivals (More information can be found here).
