Albert Verlinde will be 65 years old in four months and he has always said that he will then stop working. Will he now use that for an honorable exit at RTL Tonight?
Today Inside seemed like a great tie for Albert Verlinde’s TV career: participating one more time in a major ratings hit before he would throw in the towel. Yet this year he opted for an unsuccessful switch to RTL Tonight. It is almost inevitable that he wants to get out of it again: will he seize his 65th birthday?
Albert continues
After all, Albert always said that he would stop working at that age. However, he has come back on that, he says in the latest Story. “I have decided to continue. I will not work until I am 80°, but as long as something fun comes my way, I think: why not? Now it is again with the musical We Will Rock You.”
His husband Onno Heus supports him in this, he says. Just as it is the other way around. “He will be mayor of Tilburg until the end of January, a position for which he must be available 24/7. Also during the holidays. Then we will stay together in our house in Brabant, so that Onno can be in Tilburg quickly, if necessary.”
Big party
Now the two still live separately in their shared houses: Albert in Amsterdam, Onno in Cromvoirt. “No problem for us, but it is also nice that we will wake up together every day again.”
And then at least Albert knows for sure that there is no toyboy on his pillow. What is the current status of their love affair? They will have been married for exactly 25 years next June. “Then we will throw a big party. Not only because of our silver wedding, but we will also both be 65. We will also take a wonderful trip together.”
Honeymoon
What kind of trip? “A kind of second honeymoon,” says Albert. “We already made our vows the first time, and we have proven to each other enough over the past decades that we love each other and believe in each other. We are happy with each other every day.”
And yet in 2014, after the toyboy riot, their divorce was announced. “The divorce never happened. We were apart for six months, and that period turned out to be enough to find each other again. Our marital secret, I think, is that we give each other everything. We do not limit each other.”
