They are back in the meadow, just like last year. The plastic cows of SEW volunteer Ton Sjerps were also allowed to leave ‘the stable’ this year and announce the final for the national title.
For Ton this is a given. “Many people like it. Then they honk or take a photo. Many elderly people do not have internet and that way they know that the match is coming.”
The final battle ended twelve months ago in a deceptionwhen the decisive match against VZV uit ‘t Veld was lost. A tour through the village shows one thing: most of the 2,600 residents of Nibbixwoud are completely ready the day before the match.
‘The pot of paint can be removed’
Sjerps too, although he still had some work to do on the new creations. Because the red of VZV had to be quickly replaced by the green club colors of the Amsterdam VOC. “Oh, a pot of paint. That can be taken off,” he says dryly.
The handball players will be encouraged tomorrow by about 300 supporters, who will travel by bus from Nibbixwoud to Geleen in Limburg. “It’s quite a distance, but of course we’re there,” says Sjerps.
