The Arizona Cardinals caused another surprise in the third round of the NFL Draft. Despite rumored offers for a down trade, the Cardinals decided on a new quarterback.

With the 65th pick, the team from Glendale, Arizona secured quarterback Carson Beck from Miami. The pick was surprising in that many draft experts did not expect the playmaker so early.

Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort can’t understand that: “Many things convinced us about Carson, and we were very happy to add him to our squad,” he said following draft day two. “He has a strong throwing arm,” Ossenfort said. “He can move the ball far forward. Good accuracy, good production. Those are all things we like.”

Beck himself is of course happy about his opportunity: “For me it was really just about working as hard as possible, doing my best at the Combine, doing my best at Pro Day, just being myself in these meetings and these 30 visits and whatever happens, happens,” said Beck. “Of course it’s really, really cool that the call came today. And I’m super blessed again for this opportunity and super, super grateful that I can go there and just give it my all,” Beck said happily.

NFL: Divided opinions on Beck

Beck brings a total of six years of college experience. He played five years for Georgia and another in Miami. He won 37 of 43 games and threw 88 touchdowns (32 interceptions)

However, Beck was not completely convincing, which is why most experts saw him on day three. RTL expert Adrian Franke was quite critical after the pick. For him, Carson Beck brings “little upside” and “doesn’t have a good arm.”

In his eyes, Beck will not be a franchise quarterback. “He’ll play a few games this year and then the Cardinals will draft a quarterback in round one in 2027 anyway. That’s most likely a completely wasted pick,” is Franke’s conclusion.
