After a long injury break, it should have been his comeback for the five -time world champion. Now Neymar fails against Argentina shortly before the cracker – due to an injury.

The return of Neymar to the Brazilian national team is delayed again. The 33-year-old fails due to a muscle injury in the left thigh, as several media unanimously reported. “It seemed as if there was a comeback before, but unfortunately I will not be able to wear the most difficult jersey in the world at that moment,” wrote Neymar in an Instagram story.

As the offensive player further explained, he had intensive discussions with the coaching team. “You all know how much I wanted to come back, but we have come to a consensus and decided not to risk it so that I can prepare myself better to completely cure the injury,” said Neymar.

National coach Dorival Júnior had originally nominated him after around 17 months of injury break for the upcoming World Cup qualification games against Colombia and Argentina. Instead, the 18-year-old real Madrid player Endrick is moving into the Seleção line-up. Neymar had contested his last international match in October 2023 against Uruguay. In this game he contracted a cruciate ligament tear. Since February, the Brazilian has been on the pitch for his youth club FC Santos again after he no longer played a role in Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.

Brazil meets Colombia on March 20 and will travel to the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires on March 25. After twelve match days, the Seleção took fifth place in the qualification group and is seven points behind the leader of Argentina. The top six teams qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
