Pep Guardiola and Manchester City miss their third win in a row in the Premier League after conceding late goals. In the end, the English champions were even very lucky.
Manchester City continues to struggle in the Premier League after a small interim high. Despite a 2-0 lead, star coach Pep Guardiola’s team only managed a 2-2 draw at eleventh-placed Brentford FC after conceding late goals. With 35 points, the English football champions only remain in sixth place.
City missed the chance to take the lead in the first hour, especially thanks to superstar Erling Haaland and Savinho. England’s international striker Phil Foden redeemed Guardiola’s team after a perfect pass from Kevin de Bruyne (66th minute). A few minutes later, Foden was successful again with his fourth goal of the season – the third win in a row seemed almost certain.
However, City is still flawed defensively. First Nathan Aké saved just in front of the line for the defeated goalkeeper Stefan Ortega. Then Yoane Wissa overcame the former Bielefeld goalkeeper to score the next goal (82′). Ortega was also powerless against Christian Nörgaard’s header in stoppage time (90+2). Aké then even saved City from defeat. The Dutchman cleared again in dire need (90+5).
Chelsea FC also couldn’t get past a draw. The Blues only managed a 2-2 draw against AFC Bournemouth. Chelsea have now been waiting for a win for five league games. League leaders Liverpool couldn’t get past a 1-1 draw in the top game against surprise team Nottingham Forest (now second).
