He already drove in Formula 1 in 2021 and 2022, and with a bit of luck he could return in 2026: Mick Schumacher may be a candidate for the future F1 team Cadillac. Team supervisor Mario Andretti made this clear.

Despite high hopes, Mick Schumacher will remain without a cockpit in Formula 1 in 2025. Most recently, the last doors closed at Red Bull Racing and its sister team Racing Bulls. The German probably wouldn’t have had a chance here anyway; things have looked different at Alpine, Williams and Sauber/Audi in the last few months. Here the son of F1 record world champion Michael Schumacher only narrowly missed out on a place.

The 25-year-old is now looking ahead; in 2025 he will be racing in Alpine’s long-distance program in the WEC.

But if Schumacher looks a little further ahead, there is once again a spark of the premier class of motorsport on the horizon. The aspiring Formula 1 team Cadillac is apparently also looking for the German when looking for a driver.

“Many drivers are being considered. We are keeping all options open,” said team supervisor Mario Andretti to the “German Press Agency” when he was asked specifically about Schumacher’s personnel.

However, Andretti also emphasized that the US team obviously needs a pilot from the States to occupy at least one of the two cockpits.

Cadillac is looking for pilots for Formula 1: “Man like never …”

“I think the goal from the beginning was to have at least one American driver. It definitely makes sense to put an experienced driver alongside this American driver. That will most likely be Colton Herta. But you have to get everyone “Keep options open,” said Andretti, who became F1 world champion with Lotus in 1978, referring to the IndyCar star.

“You never know what will arise at the time of the final decision. Suddenly someone is available that you would never have thought of,” continued the American with Italian roots.

Formula 1 is planning to have the General Motors subsidiary Cadillac as the eleventh team from 2026. The US racing team will then purchase Ferrari engines and will build its own engines for the premier motorsport class at a later date.
