The stricken German ski jumper has received the next crashing broke in Japan. At the last World Cup in front of the World Cup, returnee Pius Paschke came in the first of two jumping in Sapporo as the best German only in 23rd place. For the first time in 14 years, no DSV springer ended up in the World Cup in the top 20.

With a superior home win, Japan’s top star Ryoyu Kobayashi came back impressively after a long creation crisis shortly before the World Cup in Trondheim (February 26 to March 9). With jumps to 137.0 and 136.5 m (286.4 points), the three -time touring champion won well ahead of Austrian Jan Hörl (266.7) and Domen Prevc from Slovenia (266.2).

Paschke recently left out the World Cup in Lake Placid and trained in Planica. However, he did not regain the form of the first weeks of the season when he won five jumps. After a good first jump on Saturday (twelve place), the 34-year-old slipped far back. Andreas Wellinger, third in the previous year in Sapporo, came in 24th place, Stephan Leyhe came in 29th.

It was an almost historically negative result for the team of national coach Stefan Horngacher. The German jumper was last worse when flying in Vikersund in 2011, when the later national coach Maximilian Mechler was 27. A worse result was even 15 years ago on a large hill, Martin Schmitt came to 40th place in Oslo in March 2010 in Oslo.

For the sixth time in a row, no German ski jumper landed in the top 10. For the DSV eagles it was also the 14th jump in a row without a podium. A longer doldrum within one season last existed in the winter of 2007/08. The last jump before the World Championships takes place on Sunday morning (3:00 a.m. CET).
